Corporal T'Beki (or Tbeki) is a member of Tagon's Toughs, although it is not clear when he became part of the crew. He first appears in "The Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance" when the crew busts a kreely slave ring on Blintjun-Lapi in the Thorbis system.

Petey began life as the AI of the [[Tause System|Tausennigan]] [[Ob'enn]] ship ''Sword of Inevitable Justice'' [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-13 2001-05-13]. That ship was purchased by [[Tagon's Toughs]] for a song when it turned out to apparently be haunted as a result of an emergency repair to the sewer system. Because "... a high pressure gas line was hooked up to the fluid lines. Any time the plumbing cycles gas rushes through the system ..." making strange noises that sound exactly like a disembodied demonic voice [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-11 2001-05-11]. The remote probability of this drove the AI insane. [[Captain Kaff Tagon|Captain Tagon]] had to order the AI never to think of this again [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-13 2001-05-13].

The ship and AI were renamed the [[Post-Dated Check Loan]]. This was shortened to PDCL and in turn to PD. This turned into the name Petey. [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-18 2001-05-18] [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2002-07-05 2002-07-05]

The original AI and ship self-destructed when a rescued gate-clone O'benn regained control of the ship and invalidated the order to not think about being haunted (in the final comic of Sclocktoberfest 2002 [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2002-10-31 2002-10-31]).

Petey survived his own self-destruction [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-08-29 2004-08-29] by using the [[Magic Cryokit|magic cryokit]] to build himself an organic body [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-09-05 2004-09-05] and returned as a rogue AI apparantly bent on destroying the Ob'enn empire (avatar appear in [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-08-28 2004-08-28]). During the war against the [[Pa'anuri]], the [[United Nations of Sol|UNS]] authorized the creation of a [[fleetmind]] with Petey as a key personality. He looks like a flying maraca with eyeballs. He is fond of puns, and uses a mazer as a weapon. His spherical head section which contains his processing unit and memory is armored, but his manipulator rod ("mani-stem"/"fiddly bit") is vulnerable to damage, as seen on [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2005-11-27 2005-11-27] & [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2011-07-16 2011-07-16]

=Bio=
Once upon a time there was a boy-band, popular with the femmy tweens'n'teens, and it was called the [[New Sync Boys]]. The band was a sham, though. The boys, their instruments, their music, and even their tabloid-cover lives were the product of an Artificial Intelligence owned by the record company and called, with all the imagination musterable by record company executives, N.S.B.

The company made the mistake of hiring some mercenaries for concert security, and the entire cover got blown. N.S.B. panicked, fearing reprogramming or worse, and transmitted himself over the [[Hypernet]] to the nearest computer system large enough to hold him and mobile enough to get him away from the planet. This was the control system of the Toughs' current ship ''[[Kitesfear]]''.

[[Commander Kevyn Andreyasn|Kevyn Andreyasn]] had to get rough with a logic probe to clean out the ship's computers, but merciful genius that he was, he fashioned a deceptively simple system to house the A.I., which now thought of itself as "Ennesby." What looks like a maraca is a quantum-matriced system with broad spectrum optics, Life-tastic® audio input and output, with a suite of uni-field effectors built into the little knob at the low end of the manipulator rod.

The Toughs have been through a couple of ships since then, and Ennesby managed to take over the computer systems of the ''[[Serial Peacemaker]]'' while they were being upgraded. Rather than have Kevyn go after him with another logic probe, the Captain generously allowed Ennesby to serve as their pilot, navigator, and pseudo-executive-officer.<ref>[[Basic Training|Schlock Mercenary Basic Training]]: Ennesby</ref>

Ennesby lost this upgraded capacity when the ''Serial Peacemaker'' was lost fighting the [[Pa'anuri]] at the core, and Tagon has refused to let him be the warship's AI ever since. His current rank is adjutant, which according to him "one who sticks it to you".

The [[Andromeda|Andromedan]] dark-matter entities known as the '''''Pa'anuri''''' are the reason for much of [[The Milky Way]] galaxy's history. They have been encountered by many ancient races, generally shortly after that race invented the [[teraport]]. Teraporting is injurious to dark Matter Entities, so this first encounter was usually last. The Pa'anuri destroyed all of the solar systems of any civilization that invented the [[teraport]].

The [[F'Sherl-Ganni]] were thought to be the first civilization to survive inventing the teraport and the Dark Matter Entities finding out about them. The result was a long and bitter war between the two overlaid universes, which eventually ended in a treaty. The Pa'anuri retreated to the Andromeda Galaxy, and the F'sherl-Ganni set up the [[Wormgates|wormgate]] network and initiated the infamous copy-and-interrogate policy in order to find and suppress independent invention of the teraport. With the de-extinction of the [[Oafa]] [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2013-08-25 2013-08-25] and discovery of their ancient technology and ships, it became clear that at least one other civilization battled the Pa'anuri, some twelve million of years before the F'Sherl-Ganni did. [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2014-02-28 2014-02-28] The Oafa fled the war to their 'can full of sky' [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2013-04-20 2013-04-20] - a vast ship called [[Eina-afa]].

Dark matter does not interact with ''baryonic'' matter except gravitationally, which means that the Pa'anuri effectively live in a parallel universe. However, the two aspects can communicate via gravity waves, and also attack each other with gravy. Individual Pa'anuri (they are their own warships) are too large to be significantly harmed by gravy weaponry at our scale, but the tiny wormholes created by teraports can harm them, and they can even be killed by very rapid teraporting or high-density teraport-denial fields.

About 100,000 years ago, a wormgate sent by the Pa'anuri from Andromeda arrived, its purpose being to deliver to the F'sherl-Ganni the plans for a galactic drive engine intended to prevent the Milky Way's eventual merger with Andromeda. The device was completed during the Teraport Wars, but it was a trap; when activated, the "engine" caused the Milky way to pinch itself off as its own little universe, and then began destroying the galaxy from the core out.

It might have been possible to repurpose the wormgates and reverse the anomaly created by the bogus drive, but by the time the anomaly was discovered it was too late to do so. However, the bizarre physics of the anomaly allowed Captain [[Commander Kevyn Andreyasn|Kevyn Andreyasn]] to use the Andromeda wormgate as a time machine, taking him back to before the "engine" was activated. Once he had done this, he convinced the Fleetmind of the danger, and the Fleetmind in turn gathered a coalition fleet and headed to the Core.

Kevyn and the Fleetmind convinced the F'sherl-Ganni not to activate the ''engine'', but the Pa'anuri who were observing began to attack. This so-called Core War took a heavy toll in the fleet, but it bought time to create a giant teraport-denial field that killed every Pa'anuri in the galaxy. The Fleetmind promptly stole the entire coalition fleet, settled into the dominant personality of [[Petey]], rebuilt the ''engine'' into a power source, and took the war to Andromeda. The war there is still raging and the Pa'anuri have built their own [[Core Generator|core generator]] that is 35 times larger than the one in the Milky Way [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2010-11-27 2010-11-27].

The word Pa'anuri (or possibly Paan'uri) comes from a F'Sherl-Ganni phrase meaning "''That gravitic anomaly is giving me the willies''". The Tause system (__''not''__ the Tau Ceti system) is an unusual one in that it gave nigh-simultaneous rise to two races of sophonts, one each on two of the seven oxy-inhabitable worlds orbiting Tause Prime.

The "koalazoid" [[Ob'enn]] and the "velociraptoroid" [[Kssthrata]] fought each other for 2300 years, and by the time a wormgate arrived in their system they'd settled every rocky patch in the system.

The Tausennigan War between the Ob'enn and the Kssthrata has, at its root, an accident.

An asteroid impact on Enn nearly wiped out the Ob'enn, and that happened when they were just technologically advanced enough to begin exploring concepts like radio and high-resolution astronomy. They found the Kssthrata on nearby ssThra only AFTER they rebuilt, and naturally assumed that the Kssthrata were responsible. The totalitarian government of reconstruction immediately began indoctrinating the people with concepts of racial superiority. That government remained in power for millennia, and is in power today.

By the time the Kssthrata and Ob'enn were able to understand each others' languages, they'd already launched rocks at each others' homeworlds.

Fortunately for both races, they had fairly equal military footings. They copied from each other extensively, such that the Tausennigan Thunderhead Superfortress designs are common among both peoples. They colonized and all five of the remaining oxy-inhabitable worlds in the Tause system (three-plus-Enn to the Ob'enn, two-plus-ssThra to the Kssthrata), and managed to not kill each other off or gain significant advantage for thousands of years.

The arrival of the Gatekeepers roughly 500 years ago (2600 AD) forced them into an attrition/escalation "cold war" footing -- they were now being contained by the galactic community, and both races wanted out. The Ob'enn wanted to purge the galaxy of non-Ob'enn, and the Kssthrata wanted to get as far away from the psychobears as possible. It was in this environment that a rebel faction of Ob'enn teamed up with the Kssthrata to undercut a strike against the Kssthrata homeworld, and that's where the ''Sword of Infinite Justice''got his plumbing stuffed with loyal Ob'enn corpses, and was driven insane. ===The END of the Tausennigan War===

One of the greatest military campaigns in recent history was the Ob'enn "defeat" of the Kssthrata. The two races shared the same star system for millennia, and thanks in part to Ob'enn totalitarianism and self-indoctrination, they never could play nice. The Kssthrata would have been quite happy to be left alone to their world, but at the peak of the thousands-of-years-long conflict they had a military twice the size of that of the UNS... and it still wasn't big enough to protect them from the Ob'enn.

Finally, the Kssthrata gave up. The teraport had opened up literally millions of unexplored star systems, and as soon as a Kssthrata teraprobe returned with news of a suitable empty world, they packed everybody up and moved in.

EVERYBODY. Twenty-two billion peace-loving velociraptoroid sophonts packed up and moved from their homeworld of ssThra and two colonies, and managed to do so without letting the Ob'enn know they were doing it.

When the Ob'enn finally smashed Kssthrata defenses and pounded ssThra's biosphere into damp gravel, there was nobody left there to care, and the Ob'enn never knew they'd been had -- at least not until they read the only-slightly-anonymized account of the largest retreat in known history in Milstrategist's Monthly.

The Kssthrata campaign against the dominant life form on their new homeworld was much less impressive, mostly since it was an oxygen-producing prokaryote.

===Current Status===

The Ob'enn now control all seven of the oxy-inhabitable worlds orbiting Tause Prime. ssThra is never going to be habitable again, though. The Ob'enn have cracked it open for materials rather than going to the trouble of fixing the damage they've done.

Petey began life as the AI of the [[Tausennigan]] [[Ob'enn]] ship [[Sword of Inevitable Justice]] [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-13 2001-05-13]. That ship was purchased by [[Tagon's Toughs]] for a song when it turned out to apparently be haunted as a result of an emergency repair to the sewer system. Because "... a high pressure gas line was hooked up to the fluid lines. Any time the plumbing cycles gas rushes through the system ..." making strange noises that sound exactly like a disembodied demonic voice [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-11 2001-05-11]. The remote probability of this drove the AI insane. [[Captain Kaff Tagon|Captain Tagon]] had to order the AI never to think of this again [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-13 2001-05-13].

The ship and AI were renamed the [[Post-Dated Check Loan]]. This was shortened to PDCL and in turn to PD. This turned into the name Petey. [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2001-05-18 2001-05-18] [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2002-07-05 2002-07-05]

The original AI and ship self-destructed when a rescued gate-clone O'benn regained control of the ship and invalidated the order to not think about being haunted (in the final comic of Sclocktoberfest 2002 [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2002-10-31 2002-10-31]).

Petey survived his own self-destruction [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-08-29 2004-08-29] by using the [[magic cryokit]] to build himself an organic body [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-09-05 2004-09-05] and returned as a rogue AI apparantly bent on destroying the Ob'enn empire (avatar appear in [http://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-08-28 2004-08-28]). During the war against the [[Dark Matter Entities|Pa'anuri]], the [[United Nations of Sol|UNS]] authorized the creation of a [[fleetmind]] with Petey as a key personality.
